WHO IS IT FOR
This hands-on seminar is for artists working within visual narratives through any lens based media, including video, wishing to learn more about the appropriate output options available for their final project. Participants are requested to have a completed project or one close to completion – ready to be distributed. The goal is to leave with a solid distribution and output plan at the end of the seminar.
DESCRIPTION
Selecting an output for your completed project is a crucial part of the project’s development, offering the opportunity to rethink your message as a whole, in relation to the medium and format you choose. Oftentimes, artists fail to identify the appropriate output for a project, automatically reaching for an exhibition or a book format, not having thought critically about this. A wrong decision can negatively impact the work, misrepresent and under-promote it, instead of developing and helping strengthen the artist’s practice and career.
In this hands-on seminar, Moritz Neumüller asks participants to present their works, guiding them through a series of conversations and intensive group crits, towards making considered decisions most appropriate and beneficial for their practice and artistic professional aims. Topics such as publishing, exhibiting, and alternative methods of communicating your work will be discussed. Upon completion, the participants will leave with an informed, reliable plan on the ideal and most suited output for their project.

MENTOR
Moritz Neumüller
Moritz Neumüller, is a Barcelona-based curator, educator and writer in the field of Photography and New Media. He has worked for institutions such as MoMA New York, La Fábrica Madrid and PhotoIreland Festival. He is the academic director of the Photography Department of IED Madrid, and a regular contributor to magazines such as European Photography, FOAM and Photoresearcher. Since 2010, he runs the The Curator Ship, an online resource for visual artists. Recent curatorial work includes projects for the Daegu Biennial (Korea), Photobook Week Aarhus (DK), and The Birmingham Library (UK). Most recently, others like the exhibition Photobook Phenomenon at CCCB Barcelona, and The Routledge Companion to Photography and Visual Culture, to be published by Taylor & Francis New York in 2018.
